The Big Problem Solver
Over the years Women’s Self-Defense as a whole has a gotten a bad reputation in the industry. LHA has seen a lot of the following issues:
- Overly simplified techniques that don’t work: The business of seminars and workshops will try to turn a quick profit (even with good intentions) by over simplifying a male-dominated martial arts technique for the sake of making it easier and faster to teach. The technique thus becomes ineffective. This course comes from Wing Chun Kung Fu. Wing Chun comes from an ancient Buddhist temple that was taught from an infamous Buddhist nun to a village woman to help her successfully defend herself from a drug warlord. She was so successful, the linage has flourished into the modern times and then revitalized by Bruce Lee, a mega global phenomenon. At the core of Wing Chun is simplicity & scientific-based principals that holds up during the test of times. At the basic instruction, many will simply show you techniques, and you are forced to try to mimic the moves. At a higher level, you could be given verbal clues on how the “technique” works. At LHA, you will be given the experience of why it works–the highest expression of education. We pressure-test everything, so you know it’s true. Beginners can quickly and easily understand its principles and apply them in a practical and effective manner.
- Poor self-defense strategies: Usually perpetrated by unqualified instructors who focuses the curriculum primarily on mindset strategies and less on physical strategies. This should be a red flag. If the instructor cannot physically demonstrate the martial material, then what are the chances the material is based on pure fantasy and hearsay? At LHA we explore both mental and physical strategies. To be able to fight for your life could be your most serious challenge in your life. You will need a wholistic approach rather than a one and done cookie-cutter solution.
- Exercise-based self-defense disguised as women’s self-defense: This may seem obvious with the ilk of Billy Blanks’ Tae Bo Nation, but what if we told you that many “traditional” and modern martial arts schools are guilty of this business tactic? A lot of these perpetrators smack of “female empowerment” and use a fear-based philosophy to keep you subscribed to a highly marketed product/service. Conversely, this female-focused market uses an overly simplified curriculum that can get you into trouble. The primary focus of LHA’s Women’s Self Defense Classes is self-defense period. We promote economy of motion and do not teach to combat muscular force against muscular force. Principals like these is how a smaller statured person can over come a bigger and stronger person.
